I usually have a mindset that says, your Right or Wrong or your Good or Bad. This is how I have viewed myself my entire life. I even read a verse that goes along with my thinking in Romans 7:12, the law itself is holy, and it’s commands are holy and right and good. You see I have the Old Testament and it’s commandments on my side in this way of thinking that I’m either Right or Wrong or Good or Bad. But as I continued to read in Romans, God gave me a new perspective on this black or white thinking.
Romans 7:18 & 19 say, I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature (my flesh). I want to do what is right, but I can’t. I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway.
After reading those verses I started feeling bad because of my flesh and my sinful nature, but I continued reading Romans 8:1-4. It tells me that there is NO condemnation in those that belong to Christ! Thank God because I was really getting stuck in this Good or Bad thinking of myself. Then it said the Law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his son as a sacrifice for our sins. He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit.
Can I get an Amen for Jesus? So after reading that scripture I realized I am free to stop viewing myself as Good or Bad or Right or Wrong because Jesus stepped in and took that away for all of us! I no longer have to view myself as Good or Bad because my salvation has nothing to do with what I can or cannot do. I will never be perfect in this life time and that is why God sent Jesus to stand in the gap for all of my imperfections!
So tell me, how do you view yourself? Good or Bad or Right or Wrong or Neither….Simply Free!
