Have you ever had one of those moments where you knew without a shadow of a doubt, God was right there with you in that very instant? Well, just this week I had an experience just like that.
The other day as I was walking up to my front porch after taking my dogs for a run, I looked down and as I glanced out of the corner of my eye, I saw the tiniest baby bird that barely had any feathers helplessly searching for its home. By it’s appearance, I could not believe this little creature was still alive. I just stood there thinking what in the world am I supposed to do? I franticly searched for a nest throughout the trees and bushes in my yard, but nothing could be found.
I was slightly aggravated because I did not have time to deal with this. In my frustration, I made several phone calls and the last person I talked with recommended that I sit still for an HOUR and watch to see if the momma and papa bird would come and feed it. She said the parents would not abandon the bird, and this way when I see them flying back and forth from their nest, I can simply place the bird back where it belongs.
Honestly, I got a little ticked off because I did not have an hour on my schedule to spare bird watching! I was antsy by the inconvenience, however something in me could not leave this tiny helpless creature all alone. So I sat across the yard and tolerantly waited and watched. Nothing was happening as I kept checking my watch every other minute. To release some of my frustration I got up and took a jog around the block and then sat back down again and waited. I ended up doing this song and dance for about an hour. Finally, as I sat patiently and quietly in the beauty of God’s creation tears swelled up inside of me as I felt the presence of the Lord sitting right there with me. The words from Matthew 28:20 flooded my soul,
“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
In that moment I became aware that even in the midst of my busy life, God is always right here with me waiting.
I’m happy to say that God did reveal to me a near by birds nest that I was able to place this little creature in. I do not know what the out come will be for this little bird, however I do know that God spoke to me in a profound way that day, to make time to slow down and experience his presence.
I want to encourage you to take a moment and sit with God today. I would love to hear your experience. Comment today and your name will go into the drawing for a ticket to Linda’s upcoming Virtual Mini-Retreat Discovering God’s Will for your life!

What an awesome story! Thank you for sharing this with us today Linda! To be honest, I cannot say that I have had an experience like that yet. But I look forward to sitting and having some alone time with God!
Blessings Linda,

Linda you are like the kindest most thoughtful person ever! What a blessing to read your post. I hope you have a beautiful day sweet sister!!!! Hugs!!!!
I really hope that as of today I can slow down and listen for God. I have had so much going on this week with my girls last week of school that I have not been able to look at anything except the clock to make sure I was where I was supposed to be! Today I am going to take a moment to actually look for God! I know he has been waiting for me!!
Linda, I am always so blessed by reading your posts. Thankful God used His creation this week to get you to slow down a minute so He could tell you something. 🙂
Thanks for sharing. I needed to remember that God is always with me and I need to slow down, breathe and really experience God’s closeness especially in the times of confusion.
My husband and I were watching Call the Midwife last night and a line from the show broke my heart. A child living at at home for abandoned babies and children said there’s a biscuit factory two doors down, we get the broken ones. I am one of the broken ones, but God wants me! This book is truly reaching those hard to reach areas of my soul that has longing for Him.
Love it that God slowed you down to teach you a simple but very important lesson!
It is truly amazing how we do hear and feel the presence of God when we are still…just sitting. I have experienced that but still do not sit still as often as I should to just bask in His presence. Thanks for the reminder.
I really enjoy reading your blog. I love to sit in Gods presence and listen to him. Just this morning I was down and I ask God to send me a word to help me and I started reading each blog on here and when I went to read Stepanine Claytons blog it was right there that I stopped in my tracks. It is so good to feel his presence.
Linda, for some reason this reminded me of my mama. She was always so concerned about the birds making sure they had seed and clean water. She always spoke about how God cares for the sparrows and how much more He cares for us. You were a God funnel today for a little bird one of God’s creations. And He waits so patiently for us.
Thanks Linda for sharing that story. It really does show how much He cares for even the little birds He created and how much He cares for us too. Great post!
Thank you for your words……….I loved how you took a little jog around the block to relieve the frustration. Sounds just like I would do. The best part is when you heard the voice of God, and you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that it was him speaking.. Usually when this happens to me, the tears come… How great is our GOD..Gotta love experincing his presence… way cool…. Blessings kathy
Linda – This is such a sweet story. I have bird feeders in my yard and I love to watch the birds! Your story will be in my heart and mind the next time I sit in my porch to enjoy the feeder. It is always a peaceful time for me, but I will be more mindful of Gods presence as well. Thank you!
Great post Linda!! I laughed out loud when you said you were a little ticked off because you didn’t have time for bird watching that day. I love how God speaks to us! Love, Sue (OBS Leader)
Linda, in the busyness of life it is easy to rush by and not see God or feel his presence. Thank you for sharing 🙂
It always amazes me the way that God can make his presence known in the world around us. Thank you for sharing this story.
Linda – this illustration was profound. I am leaving this page encouraged to remember how helpless I am when I am distanced from my Abba – to take a little time to slow down and rest in His presence – and to let the annoyance that immediately flares up when my schedule is interrupted just pipe down! Thank you for your insight!
