You verses God?

bobolink

Are you consumed with You or God?

I’m really starting to develop some insecurity around writing my blog each week because I’m convicted to be gut wrenching honest with you.

Ugh…..Here we go….

I have to admit to you my sweet sisters; I struggle with being consumed with me!

You see I know God did not miraculously heal me from cancer and a month long coma for me to just sit around and be obsessed with me.  Just like he hasn’t kept you alive for you to be focused and consumed with you.

But when it comes to taking a risk, like putting yourself out there for the world to see or trying something new we often end up paralyzed with fear because we consume ourselves with that one letter word…..I.

How can I do that?  What if I look stupid?  What if I am not good enough?

Which ultimately leads us to the vicious cycle of poor pitiful me, and then turns into a ridiculous self-loathing saga.

How in the world can we get ourselves off of our minds?  I had a revelation to that question this week while reading this verse.

For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.  Ephesians 2:10

When we truly accept and love who God made us to be, there’s a divine freedom that floods the soul.  And through this beautiful freedom we slowly begin to allow ourselves to do the work he prepared for us long ago.

So guess what?  Instead of being trapped, agonizing over our thoughts and fears we end up moving into being completely consumed with God!

  1. Thank you so much for your weekly input and encouragement! I am praying for you that God will continue to fill you fresh daily. I pray that God continues to give you strength and confidence to keep up the excellent work you do!! Thank you!

  2. Thank you so much for your friendship, encouragement and honesty. You are so right. Our lives are to be about bringing glory to God and we can’t do that when we look to glorify ourselves.

  3. Linda,
I signed up for your emails because of the new Bible study and a free give away. I am so glad I found you, I feel such a realness from you from the first blog and raw honest truth that keeps me coming back. Honestly I was not planning on staying, only because I have so many other devotionals but God has definitely drawn me to you. Thank you so much for following His plan and sacrificing you for us Him and us!

    • Christina, thank you so much for comment. My heart’s desire is to be completely real with all my readers. One of my greatest values is authenticity. I pray all my readers feel comfortable here so we can all grow together. It makes my heart happy that you decided to stay here 🙂 (((hugs)))

  4. Lately I’ve been more about MY wants than God’s needs for me. Thanks for helping me sit back, keep silent, be honest, and letting God do the rest. Your such a inspiration and I haven’t been through an 1/8th of what you have overcome! Your truly Blessed.

  5. Linda, thank your for your encouragement. I agree that we all have at some point been in the “I”, pity me stage. I pray and ask God to guide us all out of there so that we can all have freedom. I am blessed each time I visit you.
Just a note, I am on day 5 of the devotional, and let me tell you I am so glad I reviewed the first four days and read the 5th today, before my “train derailed”!!!!!!! LOL, but with prayer and your encouragement, I came thru the wreck unharmed and thanking God for what I encountered. I admit I did feel, offense from what happened, but rebuked satan and asked for forgiveness, thus, embracing the process! I am truly blessed, you are amazing….Anna

    • Anna, I’m so happy to hear that you’re enjoying the devotional and you’ve managed to press through and stay on track 🙂 Thank you for your encouragement!

  6. I think one of the things I admire about you is your honesty about yourself. It makes me be more truthful with myself because I see I’m not alone in dealing with “stuff”. I love how you always lead me to scripture to find out God’s truth about who we are and why we are here.

    • Randi, At times I get a little insecure about being “real” but then I’m reminded that it’s ok because that is the only way we can truly grow individually and with each other. Thank you for your support 🙂

  7. Your honesty is what has drawn me to your blog. In a world where people want to hide their flaws and appear to have perfect lives, it’s nice to know, we are all really dealing with the same things; maybe just not at the same time. I want to have God first in my life, but being human, other “stuff” gets in the way. Well, I let it get in the way. I am improving and I feel that relationship drawing closer. I am signed up for the next P31 OBS When Women Say Yes to God. I look forwar to your posts and thank you for what you are doing….it is your gift and God intended for us to share our gift with others. Love and prayers

    • Sheila, I’m encouraged greatly by your comment! I’m going to continue keeping it real and sharing my vulnerabilities….otherwise, there’s no need to write my blog. 🙂 Thank you for your support & encouragement in this!

  8. I find myself thinking of me a lot. I have been recently looking to God more and more and I feel so much better. I look at life in a different way in all of my daily doings. It is very hard but it is what God wants for us and I plan to continue my life with Him in mind!!! I love your blog, thank you very much for being a child of God and working for him!!!

    • Isn’t it amazing how different life looks when we shift our focus from ourselves to God? I’m honored to do God’s work and it blesses me beyond words when I read all the encouraging comments! Thank you!
