How Are You Doing Friend?

bench.jpg

Hi sweet friend!

How have you been doing this summer?

Seriously, how have you really been this summer?

A few days ago I received an unexpected text message from a very good friend of mine that I haven’t seen in a while. This is how the conversation went.

{Friend} Hi Linda! How’s your summer going?

{Me} Great! How about yours?

{Friend} I’ve had a tough few weeks but got a new perspective so I’m doing much better now! …..

As the conversation continued, I became aware that my first response was completely superficial. I had my guard up, but in the pit of my stomach I knew everything had not been what I would call “great”. For some reason though I felt the need to come across as happy-go-lucky, life is perfect.

Have you ever done that?

Sometimes I think we get it in our minds that because we are Christians we need to appear like we’ve got it all together.

And you know what’s even worse than that?

When we approach our relationship with God in the same manner. Even though God knows us way better than we know ourselves, keeping this kind of wall up is really not good for the heart.

Do you happen to have any walls up?

Really think about it for a moment. Search your soul. Is there anything that might be a little blocked off?

If so, I want to encourage you today to let your guard down and spill your guts out to God.

All you need to do is find a quiet place where you can meet with Him alone. Talk to him. I mean really talk to Him, out loud just as if He was sitting across from you. Don’t be afraid to share with Him what’s been pulling at your heartstrings these past few weeks. Don’t hold anything back. You might even need to shed a few tears.

Then, wait and listen to see what He has for you.

{Remember He is always our greatest counselor and comforter. He watches over us, instructs us and teaches us in the way we should go.} Psalm 32:8

So sweet friend, how are you {really} doing this summer? I’d love to hear from you. Leave me a comment below.

I currently have a waiting list, however I will have appointments opening up in mid August. I want to encourage you that there is hope and a new way of life through Christian Life Coaching. ((hugs))

  1. Great blog post Linda! Yes, it is true! We mask our hurts, struggles and failures. Somehow I believe people will connect much better with those who are honest about where they are. The hurting feel intimidated by the “I’m just great.” Love you.

    • Thanks Merril! My hope & prayer is that as Christian sisters we can be real with each other because that is where Jesus meets us 🙂

  2. Your question makes you stop and think about how you are doing and are people really interested in what you have to say. I know God cares and that’s so good to be able to talk to him anywhere or anytime. I’ve got so great Christian books to read and tapes to look at. I want to become an avid reader. If you have any suggestions on how to do that I would greatly appreciated. My body has taken a beating this summer. I had a surgery in May and then had to have another surgery in June. I still got more complications and had to be put in the hospital for 2 weeks in July. I’ve been home about a week. I’m still not healing properly but my doctor doesn’t want to operate on me unless it’s really necessary. Those surgeries made number 24 and 25 from the surgery I had that went wrong 12 1/2 years ago. In July they were trying to close a fistula from the previous surgeries. They wanted to close it by itself so I didn’t get to eat anything for about 11 days. They fed me TPN through my vein. Also I have the MRSA virus that is so resistant to antibiotics that they were giving me Vanmyocin through the vein to. My veins are hard to find so they put in a picc line which didn’t last long so they had to put in a central line. With a picc line they can draw blood out and never stick you but with a central line they can’t because of bacterial infections. I was quarantined and couldn’t leave my room and everyone that came in had to wear a gown and gloves. So you see I haven’t had a summer at all. I’m so discouraged that I can’t heal properly. So sorry I’m so depressed but I appreciate you caring enough to ask” How I’m Doing?” Bless you, Sharon

    • Thank you Sharon for sharing. I’m so sorry all that you’ve endured. You are one strong, brave and courageous woman! Lifting you in prayer today. ((hugs))

  3. Hello, Linda. I am just catching up on email and am so happy to find your blog post. You always challenge me to think about things. My summer has been great in most ways and in other ways, I have struggled with some medical issues. I am beginning to feel better and am praising God for the blessing of feeling better. Thank you so much for always making me smile and brightening my day. God Bless You. 🙂 Love and hugs to you from me. 🙂

    • Melissa you ALWAYS brighten my day! Thank you for being part of my blog community. It wouldn’t be the same without you. You continue to encourage me 🙂 Sending you (((hugs))) & lots of love!
