Chasing Extraordinary

embraceordinary

As a Christian Life Coach I spend a lot of time listening. My clients amaze me with their courage and bravery, as they are completely authentic with me. Often times I pinch myself because I get to do the work I love.

I’ve noticed over the past few years a common underlying theme that is generally unspoken. And before I share this with you, I’ll go ahead and confess, I have lived 95% or more of my life this way too.

We are living our lives chasing the extraordinary instead of embracing the ordinary.

I believe we live in a state of fear that we will never be “good enough” or “important enough” because we are chasing the extraordinary. Truth is the extraordinary is rare. I’m not trying to be negative here, but honestly the majority of our days, hours and minutes are filled with the ordinary. For example, washing dishes, paying bills, grocery shopping, driving to work…

After thinking about embracing the ordinary, I really couldn’t get excited. Truth is I really do not like washing dishes or grocery shopping. No matter how many times I try to convince myself to see the positive and be grateful I still manage to fall back into hating the ordinary and wishing for the extraordinary. The next thing I know, I’m feeling weak, insecure and lacking confidence because my life appears to not measure up to the “extraordinary”.

But take heart my friends, because I found scripture that will shed light on the ordinary and help us push through!

“So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to preserve so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.” Hebrews 10:35-36

Will you consider shifting your perspective with me? Let’s move from chasing the extraordinary to embracing the ordinary because we have God’s promises waiting for us!

How would your life be different if you embraced the ordinary? I love hearing from you. Let me know your thought in the comments below.

Inspirational Coaching Minute

Let’s set ourselves up for success next year! Instead of starting the year with “New Year’s Resolutions” once again, I’m approaching next year completely different. Over the next few weeks, I’m going to take time to reflect and journal about all the things I loved about this year.

Then when the New Year rings in, I’m going to carry over what I loved about this year to the next. Instead of “hoping” I can stick with my New Year’s Resolutions once again or even saying forget setting any goals, I’m starting a new tradition, a new perspective. Will you join me? Leave a comment below, I would love to hear from you!

Humble Pie Recipe

truleechelsea2

Let me start with a confession. God has been telling me “think before you speak” my entire life! It all started in elementary school. Every report card read, “Linda talks too much in class.” Honestly, I resented that all my teachers had the same thing to say about me.

In all sincerity, I know I still talk too much even at 39. I cannot help myself, sometimes I get so passionate about what is in my heart that my brain checks out and my mouth runs the show.

I remember a pastor once said, “Your heart could be right, but your mind can be wrong.”  And ever since hearing that revelation God has given me way too many opportunities to live that out in my daily life. As a result I’ve created the perfect recipe for Humble Pie!

All it takes is a heart for Jesus and sprinkle it with a little self-righteousness and voilà, you have Humble Pie my friend.

So what do you do when get that sick humbling reality check after you’ve totally messed up?

Do you shrink? Do you beat yourself up with shame? Do you resent or blame others for your slip-ups? Or do you reach for the truth? God’s honest truth.

Most of the time I do everything BUT search for the truth. I really don’t know why, but I’m naturally more comfortable with resisting the truth.

Psalm 139:4&5 (CEB) reads, “There isn’t a word on my tongue, Lord, that you don’t already know completely. You surround me –– front and back. You put your hand on me.”

When I read this scripture I couldn’t help but shout THANK YOU JESUS! No matter what I say, no matter what!?!, God already knows it. He knows exactly where my heart is and the best part of it all is His hand of blessing is on me no matter what stupid words end up coming out of my mouth.  I don’t know about you, but this scripture shifted my thinking from self-condemnation to possibly self-affirmation.

I would love to hear any of your personal humble pie stories or recipes! Leave a comment below.

Creating {Self-Love}

lorraine santana2

Over the past few weeks I’ve been on a bit of a quest to sincerely love myself.

This might sound like a no brainer to you, but I recently became shockingly aware that I could not give away what I don’t already have!

It broke my heart to face this reality.

After this eye-opening truth I said ENOUGH!

I will not continue to live a half-hearted life. And that is what led me to learning and creating self-love.

On my Inspirational Coaching Minute Vlog this week I asked what do you love to do so much that you lose track of time? For me, one of the things I love to do is create! Something about creating, painting, drawing brings my inner-self out and I become fully alive. I love myself in those moments and that is why I plan to make time to create more consistently.

This week I want to challenge you to take time do what you love doing and then take notice of how you feel about yourself.

I want to hear from you! What things would you do if you had endless amounts of time? Or what have you done this week to embrace self-love? Leave a comment below.

*Next Tuesday I will be doing a GIVE-AWAY on my blog!!!

How To Love Yourself

2thepinkpeppercorn

Let’s get real here, every single person on this planet struggles with truly loving him or herself. I mean why in the world do we constantly numb ourselves with social media, food, work, alcohol, shopping, TV, Starbucks, fill in the blank________!

So how do we truly love ourselves?

Well, the first thing is to forget about following a “How To” step-by-step guide on loving yourself. If “How To” really worked then I would not be writing this blog post right now. Think about the millions of how to guides out there already.

Each one of us is a unique and special individual so what works for me might not work for you. However, there is one thing I’ve learned through many years of counseling and coaching that works every time.

Community!

What? How can community teach me how to love myself?

When we are around like-minded people we discover a sense of belonging that opens ourselves up to the possibility of acceptance {self-acceptance}, worth {self-worth}, and love {self-love}.

So what I would like to do is to invite you into a discussion on my blog today around numbing. What things are you using to avoid what you’re feeling?

I’ll go first! I eat carbs and sugars when I’m emotional! I’ll do a quick Starbucks run to give me a warm hug of comfort when I’m feeling sad. I’ll hop over to Social Media for a dose of comparison that will either puff up my ego or deflate it when I’m feeling insecure.

Ughhh! I did it! I shared with you some things that I’m not too proud of, but it’s out there. Now, will you join me in this discussion? What do you use to numb or avoid what your feeling?

Before we start this dialog, let’s pray the truth over our conversation.

Gracious Heavenly Father,

We stand together on Your divine word and claim it over our lives today. “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1” We pray for strongholds to be broken as we come together in a community and discover how to truly love ourselves as You have always desired before time began. We pray for no judgment from one another, but simply love. In Jesus Name we pray, Amen

I cannot wait to hear from you! Leave your comment below! ((hugs))
