What defines who you are?
For me, it’s always been my relational and/or career status. Either I’m a wife, mother, friend, Christian, Life Coach, writer or speaker. For as long as I can remember, I’ve never felt comfortable sitting with just being me, Linda. I’ve always felt like I needed something or someone to define me.
Lately my soul has been stirring three simple words…authenticity, truth, and realness.
A few weeks ago I was taking a walk through the woods with a very special friend. It was a beautiful day so we decided to stop and sit in the middle of the trail and continue our conversation. The next thing I knew we were literally laying on our backs just staring up at the sky laughing and chatting. In that moment I couldn’t help myself but take a quick picture, it was a little glimpse of heaven. (photo below)
Lying there, sharing my soul while laughing and crying, I felt authentic; truth and realness wash over me. I thought to myself, this is me, no pretense, no performance, simply me.
This might sound a little crazy, but over the past few months I’ve been in conflict with myself and couldn’t figure out why. And then as I was working through some of my coaching material it hit me right between the eyes. I’ve not been living out of my core values.
Everyone has unique values that are highly important to him or her. For me, my #1 value is authenticity. And if I live any other way, I end up lacking peace and joy in my life. Because it was so easy for me to get out of balance with my life values, I want to encourage you today to take a moment and write an inventory of what you value most. Ask yourself if you’ve been living out of your values and if not what will you do to get back on track.
I invite you to share with me in the comments your top 3 life values. I would love to hear from you!

Don’t you hate getting interrupted?
How many times have you said, “I don’t have time for this in my life right now?” Honestly, when do we ever have time for interruptions?
A little over a year ago, I received a phone call from my dad telling me Mom had been admitted to the ICU for unexpected triple by-pass surgery. I hung up the phone immediately, packed my bags and headed to the hospital two hours away.
I was panicked!
Speeding down the highway, fear and anxiety tormented me. As you can imagine, I don’t do well with hospitals after spending almost four weeks in a coma on life-support. It’s just not my thing. But no matter if it was my thing or not it was getting ready to be my thing real quick.
It felt surreal walking into the ICU to see mom lying in bed hooked up to monitors and IVs. It was heartbreaking.
Her surgery turned out to be a success, however weeks later after getting her settled in at home, I received another phone call, “Your mother has had a heart attack. She’s in the ambulance now.”
I fell to the floor in shock and pure exhaustion.
On my way back to the ICU, I was determined not to leave her side. I stayed by her bed day and night. I’ll never forget those dark nights watching the monitors and praying, “Lord, save her.” Tears flooded my face and soul. “Lord, thank you for healing me so that I can sit by Mom’s bed just as she did for me.” It was in those midnight hours that I felt the Lord’s presence and his gentle spirit hovering over the hospital room.
Life was very disrupted during those months of hospitalization and rehabilitation, however I do not regret this divine interruption. I’m actually very grateful. It was one way I could repay my mom for all that she has sacrificed for me my entire life. I’m proud to say that yesterday; I celebrated with my mom at her retirement party! Another MIRACLE from God!
I want to encourage you no matter how overwhelmed you are with life’s interruptions; the Lord can turn them into some life’s greatest appreciations.
Leave a comment and tell me whom you are grateful for in your life today. Let’s cover them in prayer.

Will you join me on my front porch today?
As I sit in my rocking chair, listening to the birds chirp, watching the sunrise with the cool gentle breeze blowing, I’m filled with awe and wonder. God softly whispers, “be still”.
I remember sitting in this very place writing one of many journal entries on my CaringBridge page during my cancer journey. Every entry was written from a secret place deep in my soul. There’s something about facing death that strips away everything you’ve ever tried to hide behind.
Do you want to know the best part about having cancer? I know that sounds crazy, but really there was good that came from living with that dreaded “C” word.
I finally gave myself permission to genuinely be me. There was no need to perform anymore or appear to be something I was not. It naturally forced me to be me while uncovering the gift of life.
I’m #amazed at how God took my most vulnerable and frightening days and turned them into vast strength and courage.
After my third chemotherapy treatment I wrote, “God is using the cancer to change my life for Him to bring New Life in my spirit so I can share Jesus’ love with everyone I meet. Thank you Jesus for my cancer.” I had no clue how true those words would resonate in my daily life today, four years later.
My sweet friend, I’m here today to encourage you, that no matter what pain or hell you might face, it will pass and can be used for God’s greater purpose in your life.
I’m asking you to hold on, even if you have to white knuckle it, because He will create beauty from your pain.
Please share whatever is on your heart today.
Let’s pray for each other. When you leave a comment, please pray for the person that comments before you.
Much love, blessings and God’s favor for you~

“40 days of juice. I’m asking you to drink juice for the next 40 days? No chewing any food. No solids, straight vegetable and fruit juice.”
Say what???
“You’ve gotta be kidding me? I love my food way too much…and not to mention no chewing…just slurping some nasty juice? There is no way I could ever do something so drastic!”
Well my friends, that was the conversation I had with God one early morning, last October. I was snuggled in my favorite chair, enjoying the solitude, sipping my hot coffee when God stirred my spirit to take a giant step towards radical obedience.
I was in a season where God was opening up many doors in my Christian Life Coaching business. During that time, he also impressed on my heart to write a book about the truths I’ve learned to live by since my near death experience. I did not take his instructions lightly. I knew this was something I could not do in my own strength.
After a few minutes of complaining and arguing with God about this ridiculous juice fast, he whispered, “If I cannot trust you with food, how can I trust you with people?”
Those words pierced my heart and there was no way I could deny what he was asking me to do.
Later that morning I shared with my bible study group that I was going to start a 40-day juice fast the very next day and asked for their earnest prayers. I sobbed as we prayed together because I knew this was going to be a life long pivotal moment in my relationship with the Lord. Following Christ with radical obedience wasn’t going to be for this one occasion; instead it was going to become the way of life….a new kind of normal.
As I write this post, ten months has past and I’m currently in the process of signing with a literary agent. I’ve learned that radical obedience is really the only way to experiencing life with deep satisfaction.
Have you ever had a “Say What” moment with God? I would love to hear from you!
